It's unlikey large pages will be configured CORRECTLY by default. That would be a horrible default OS configuration.
You NEED to do some work to set it up.
1) Identify how much memory you have
2) Identify how much your willing to give to minecraft
3) Give your system some breathing room above MC! If you have 16GB, give MC a max of 14GB. The OS needs memory for cache!
4) Consider if other apps will run besides MC, give less memory to MC
5) Take your MC target, add a little bit, so say 8GB for MC, give 9GB to huge pages
6) with 2MB pages, 9GB is 4500 pages.
7) Ensure 4500 pages is setup with 10GB~ max SHMMAX sysctl config.
